Yeast-Free Living – Can I Eat Pita Bread?
If you have recently decided to give up eating yeast, there are probably questions on your mind regarding what foods you can and cannot eat on a yeast-free diet. One of those you might be wondering about is Arabic bread. Since it is not as well risen as regular bread, does it still contain yeast?
Well, the answer is, yes, regular pita bread does in fact contain yeast. However, there are alternative types of pita bread that you can buy for free, or you can actually make your own. This is a recipe.
What you will need:
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 cup soy flour
- 1 cup unbleached white flour
- A cup and a half of distilled or purified water
- Half a teaspoon of baking powder
- Dash of sea salt
Note: If you are using gluten-free florets, you will need to add eggs to the mixture until it has a good consistency.
How to make pita bread:
- Mix olive oil, water and salt. Add the baking powder and flour and mix until smooth, like pancake batter.
- Rub the inside of the pan with a paper towel dipped in olive oil. Let the pan sit for 10 minutes.
- Place the skillet over medium-low heat, and wait about 3 minutes before pouring the batter into the middle of the skillet.
- Tilt the pan in a circular motion until the bottom of the pain pan is completely covered with the desired thickness of batter.
- When the top side looks dry, flip it over with a spatula and cook on the other side. This should take about 1 minute on each side.
