How to take your modeling career to the next level
If you are reading this article, then you are probably a supermodel who wants to take your modeling career to the next level. We have the answers, but it won’t be sweet and easy.
We list some of the most important lifestyle changes and steps to take if you’re serious about succeeding in this industry (warning: not for the faint of heart).
Follow a strict diet
These are the first and most important lifestyle changes to make. Top models like the ones from Victoria’s Secret have been completely dedicated to eating healthy. They don’t eat processed foods at least 95% of the time, and they stick to real, whole foods with a low glycemic index. They strictly follow the diet of eating large amounts of food (a high-carbohydrate diet) for breakfast, followed by smaller amounts of food throughout the day.
Breakfast typically consists of lean meats, eggs, oatmeal, and assorted vegetables; The main goal is to get in the complex carbohydrates and proteins early in the day. Lunch consists mostly of light steamed vegetables and meat, and most importantly, little or no carbohydrates. Dinner consists of vegetables and soups with some healthy meats. Snacks throughout the day consist of natural sugars and a little salt; Most snacks are assorted fruits (healthy sugars) and nuts (salt-free). On top of that, strictly following at least 8 glasses of plain water per day, and avoiding alcohol (OK, maybe you can have a drink once in a while, but without going overboard).
Some fashion designers like Kat Von D and Madonna pride themselves on a vegan diet that is free of all kinds of eggs, meat, and dairy. You can research their diets and how they relate to good skin and general health.
Powerful workout regimen
If you want to get fit, there are plenty of workout regimens out there, but our favorite for women is Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr, who reveals her fitness regimen and diet plans in Women’s Health and Fitness Magazine, and an excellent article by Huffington Post on fitness plans for male models who should focus on bodybuilding and toning their muscles.
Know your target market
Since you intend to go into the fashion industry, you should also consider the target market that suits your looks the best. For example, in America, plus-size models have come into fashion, because they are more representative of the average, everyday woman in America. As such, there is a need to think about the market that best fits the look and feel you are offering. You may have started in your home country, but when you decide to pursue a long-term career in modeling, there is a need to consider the international possibilities of furthering your career.
Sign in with a model agency
If you are currently freelancing, a good way to step up your game is to sign up with a credible modeling agency that will lead your career. As a freelancer, you have the ability to land multiple contracts with different modeling agencies. Thus you will be able to make a more informed decision on which modeling agency will work best with your interests. Signing a contract for a year or so means getting more opportunities with bigger clients, and representing the agency on the international stage as well. As a model, you have everything you need to take care of, and you can focus all your attention and energy on your job.
Pursue more studies in modeling
Gaining industry knowledge and experience in your field and your niche is never a disadvantage. A professional qualification in modeling will validate your abilities as a model, and give you an edge as you progress in the modeling field.
Finally, as Rihanna says, “Work, work, work!” It is the only real way to advance in the field and there is no substitute for hard work. Keep striving, get more jobs, get more opportunities and clients, while you have the beauty and energy to do so, and you will definitely advance far in the fashion career.
